I post this review for my friend. She had a really bad experience in this dental. Here is her story. I came here before because my teeth turned black and the nerves were necrotic. After consultation, I was told that the only option I had was to have a root canal treatment. When I inquired about whether the blackened teeth could be whitened, the answer was no unless using veneers. So at the time, I only had the root canal done without getting the veneers. However, later I visited another dentist, and they helped redo the root canal, using internal cleaning and whitening methods to restore my teeth to a clean white. It's unfortunate that Cal Dental didn't even know about this technique, showing a lack of professionalism and unwillingness to continue learning new technologies. Consequently, I had to pay twice as much to fix my teeth. I'm furious and disappointed.

Two years ago, I had a root canal done here. Recently, I discovered that there is a bacterial infection. For this reason, I will never return here for further treatment. The experience with this clinic was terrible, not sure how they got such high Google ratings. Back then, I purchased dental insurance, and the insurance company required a six-month claim. The owner, KK, required me to pay $1000 in cash first and promised to reimburse me later. However, she later informed me that the insurance company couldn't cover as much. I ended up not only not getting a refund, but I also had to pay more. She had an arrogant attitude torwarded me, and it ended without a resolution. I recently inquired about the cost of a root canal with the same insurance and the same procedure at other Dentists in Irvine, the out-of-pocket cost was only $400. Not only are they kinda scamming you, but they are terrible and unprofessional about their job. My friend went to this place for dental veneers 4 times, and they still couldn't get it right. Her teeth were getting smaller and she was frustrated. The owner, KK once told me that she had 10 clinics, but now only one is left. No wonder why. If any of you consider this place for dental care, all I can say is to be cautious.

I must return to edit my comments to express my strong recommendation for this dentistry. Cal Dental is a family-owned office led by Dr. Anko Hsiao, which has been established here for over 20 years. All patients are well-cared for, creating a welcoming feeling akin to coming home—unlike some local dental practices where you might feel neglected. Dr. Hsiao’s wife, Kay, treats every patient with care, remembering our needs and wants and treat us with extreme patience. I first discovered this place when I received a free cleaning through the UCI insurance plan. The service was very professional, and I ended up coming regularly for exams, cleanings, all the way to fillings and crowns. I feel safe to discuss any concerns I have with the doctor, as he is knowledgeable in his job and always keep good track of all patients’ tooth history and conditions. Unlike other providers, Dr. Anko does a very great job as he always take time looking into patient’s x-ray and tooth condition carefully. He also has all those expensive latest technology products and use them on every patient as needed (e.g. ultrasonic digital 3D tooth model collector, lazer gun, hygiene machines). I did two crowns, one inlay, and one extraction of wisdom tooth in the last few years - all turned out to be very well done. No single pain at all and I safely treat them as a regular tooth. I would definitely recommend this dentistry to everyone looking for quality job and great service at a reasonable price.

I would give Dentist Anko Hsiao a 10 stars if Yelp has a 10 stars rating. I don't know why he does not have a lot of Yelp's review??? Dentist Anko Hsiao has been practicing at this small plaza for over 20 years. My family used to live in this neighborhood, and he was referred to us by my former co-worker. During the past years the dentist had done 3 upper teeth implanted for my husband and unbelievable that was 19 years ago. These implants are still perfectly in place, and up-to-date my husband has not had a single issue with these implants. He is still loving his implants. Last year, my husband other teeth were deteriorated and needed the dental extraction for both upper and lower teeth. Due to the excessive bleeding problem, my husband cannot have the implant procedure done; therefore, denture is the only option! We got many consultations from many dentists in OC, but all of them advised my husband 19 years implanted teeth must be removed for replacing both new upper and lower dentures. So, we came back to this dentist, his staffs are friendly and great. The dentist wife, she still remembered us. She is supper nice, professional, and happy that we came back. Again, the dentist has put in both upper and lower dentures without removing the 3 existing implants. My husband likes his new smile, and he is able to enjoy his meal every day. Plus, everyone gave him many compliments about his dentures. We just cannot say thank to Dentist Anko Hsiao enough for his exceptional skill, and importantly he has brought back a smile on my husband face! For sure I will make a long distance trip for my next check-up with the Anko Hsiao-Cal Dental from now on.
